We make the complex simple.
We built an immersive portfolio site for SMM that allowed for localised sites for their two offices.
Spackman Mossop Michaels is an industry-leading practice for landscape architecture and urban design with offices in Sydney and New Orleans. The new website build was led by our partners Public Websites. The brief was to design a website that was strategy-led, rather than portfolio-based.
A challenge for SMM was that it has offices in the US and in Australia that both need similar but vitally different content for their regional target markets. We used Prismic as a headless CMS and could therefore use localisation to separate documents into two “translations”. These translations used the same design modules and thus both offices could fine tune their copy, imagery and choice of modules to their own market.
We created a classic JAMstack website for SMM, using a headless CMS (Prismic), a static site builder framework (Gatsby), and deployed on Netlify.
As well as custom modules for the client to drag and drop throughout the site, we created custom repeatable document types for new case studies, reports, team members, and articles to future-proof the build. The main technical challenge here was the need to create two parallel sites based on user location. We combined Prismic’s Locales feature with some custom GraphQL queries to serve the appropriate content and routing based on location, and also built in preview links for SMM’s content team to deploy through the CMS.
